New Retreat Leader Blends Healing Traditions of the East and West

Peace Tree builds relationships with spiritual teachers and guides so we can offer you programs that nurture your soul’s growth.  One of our newest retreat leaders honors the wisdom of Christianity and Buddhism.  Drawing from his experience as a Counselor, Priest, and Artist, he weaves these strands of tradition together to support inner healing and freedom.

Meet John Blair!  And join him on Saturday, August 25, 9 a.m.- noon for his first healing workshop in his series “The Spirit Led Life.”  More information coming soon!

John Blair

Most of my life I have pursed, practiced, and sought the integration of Christian and Buddhist spiritual traditions.  I was ordained a priest in the African Anglican Orthodox Church in ’97, and later served as a priest and Franciscan Friar in the Episcopal Church.  Also, I was ordained a non-sectarian Buddhist priest (teacher) in 2010 after twenty years of practice in various Buddhist traditions and communities.  In ’17, I was given authorization by Christ Catholic Church, an independent catholic denomination, to formally pursue teaching and integration of Christian contemplative prayer and Buddhist meditation practices.

I have been fortunate to meet with spiritual teachers of various traditions.  One of my spiritual mentors, Ron Roth, a former Roman Catholic priest, dedicated his life to promoting spiritual healing and contemplative spiritual practices.  I have committed myself to continue his teachings as I have understood and received them.  My motto, as I received from another spiritual mentor is quite simply:  “God is Love, and unconditional love is enlightenment.”

My academic background: I have a Doctor of Ministry and Masters of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO.   I have a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO.  I have a Bachelor of Art in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Also, I am a visual artist working in a variety of mediums.  I have exhibited my work professionally in several solo and group exhibitions in galleries in the metropolitan St. Louis area including St. Charles, MO.  Art is an important passion of mine and through it I find opportunity to explore my spirituality, as well as my humanity.
