Setting the Story Free: A Day to Write

Setting the Story Free: A Day to Write

“Stories heal us because we become whole through them. In the process of writing, of discovering our story, we restore those parts of ourselves that have been scattered, hidden, suppressed, denied, distorted, forbidden, and we come to understand that stories heal. “
writer Deena Metsger from Writing For Our Lives

In the busy-ness and demands of our lives, in the distractions of our collective world, the tenderest of our stories often goes underground and gets buried. In this day-long gathering we will listen in to the story inside our bones that wants to be told, to the hidden stories of soul, to the stories that help us make meaning of our meandering lives, stories that heal us. Thru the day, in the sanctuary of a small group, in a series of short writing tasks, we will listen ourselves into language and then listen to each other as we share what we find.

This is not about becoming a better writer. There will be no critiquing or evaluation or analysis of what we share. We will bear witness thru listening deeply with the ears of the heart and celebrating what we hear. (Reading aloud is encouraged but always voluntary)

“Stories move in circles. They don’t move in straight lines. So it helps if you listen in circles. There are stories inside stories and stories between stories, and finding your way through them is as easy and as hard as finding your way home. And part of the finding is the getting lost. And when you’re lost, you start to look around and to listen.”
Deena Metzger
